What is Osteopathy? Osteopaths like other statutory health professionals (i.e. Doctors, Dentists etc) are required to study human anatomy, neurology, pathology etc for four to five years. Osteopaths are also required to follow a strict code of conduct and continued professional development in order to maintain the highest standards of the profession. This is why Osteopaths are often found forming an integral part of primary health care teams. Osteopathy recognises that much of the pain stiffness we suffer stems from abnormalities or changes induced by poor posture, sports injuries, stress and general day to day living, to our body’s structure and function. Osteopaths diagnose and treat problems with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints to help the body’s natural healing ability. Meet Our Osteopath Martin Sheerin. Martin is a fully qualified Osteopath with a first class honours degree in osteopathy and a Bachelors BSc in Fitness and Health. He graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 2005 with a first class honours and the year prize for Concepts and Principles in Osteopathy. Martin has experience in working within private practice since 2005 and the NHS for 10 years, most recently at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where he worked closely with Physiotherapists, Pain Management Team, Rheumatology, and Trauma and Orthopaedics.
